CPF
What is Full Retirement Sum (FRS)?
The target CPF retirement balance that funds the standard CPF LIFE payout. For members turning 55 in 2026 the FRS is $220,400. The Basic Retirement Sum is half the FRS, and the Enhanced Retirement Sum (the maximum you can top up to) is four times the Basic Retirement Sum.
The three retirement sums
CPF sets three targets for the cohort turning 55 in 2026: the Basic Retirement Sum (BRS) of $110,200, the Full Retirement Sum (FRS) of $220,400 — exactly twice the BRS — and the Enhanced Retirement Sum (ERS) of $440,800, four times the BRS and the most you can top up to. These figures rise a few percent each year for younger cohorts.
Why the FRS matters
The sum you set aside in your Retirement Account at 55 determines your CPF LIFE payout. You can withdraw any CPF above your FRS at 55; alternatively, if you own a property, you may set aside just the BRS and withdraw more, with the shortfall to the FRS secured by a charge or pledge on the home. Topping up to the ERS buys the maximum lifelong payout and earns tax relief in the year you contribute.
