What is CPF MediSave Account (MA)?

The CPF account for healthcare — hospital bills, MediShield Life premiums and approved insurance. It earns around 4% a year and is capped at the Basic Healthcare Sum; contributions that would exceed the cap overflow into your other CPF accounts.

What MediSave pays for

MediSave covers approved healthcare costs for you and your family: hospitalisation and day surgery, MediShield Life and Integrated Shield Plan premiums, and selected outpatient treatments such as chronic-disease management, scans and vaccinations. It earns around 4% a year, the same as the Special and Retirement Accounts.

The Basic Healthcare Sum cap

MediSave is capped at the Basic Healthcare Sum (about $75,500 for the latest cohort), which is raised each year to keep up with healthcare costs and then frozen for life once you turn 65. Contributions that would push MediSave above the cap don’t disappear — they overflow into your Special or Retirement Account, and then your Ordinary Account, so the money simply lands in a more flexible account.
