CPF
What is Basic Healthcare Sum (BHS)?
The maximum amount you can hold in your MediSave Account, adjusted every year. Once MediSave reaches the BHS, further CPF contributions that would have gone to it overflow into your Special or Retirement Account instead.
How the cap works
The Basic Healthcare Sum (around $75,500 for the latest cohort) is the ceiling on your MediSave Account. It is raised each year for members below 65 to keep pace with healthcare costs, then fixed for the rest of your life once you reach 65 — so you always know your personal cap.
Where the overflow goes
Once MediSave hits the BHS, contributions that would have gone there flow instead to your Special Account (or Retirement Account from age 55), and then to your Ordinary Account. Nothing is lost — it simply lands in an account you can use more freely, whether for retirement or, in the case of the OA, for housing and investments.
